Top of the Morning to You
Sweet Friends,
Only 2 days till St. Patrick's Day,
so hope you have something green
picked out to wear on Thursday!
Don't want to see any of you all
bruised up from being pinched....lol
Thought I would show you some scenes
from our living room gone Green in
honor of St. Patrick's Day and Spring,
since it will officially be here on Sunday
Just the coffee table today.
Here it is for Valentine's Day
So just decided to add some
green and change out the pitcher
and leave it be............
then later thought well I should
just reposition things opposite of
what they were.....so did that!
Ya Gotta tweak, ya know!! lol
Also................
decided to start a series on the
"Best Cleaning and Household tips"
I have learned and gleaned over my
45 years of taking care of our home.
Hoping it might be of help to some
of you at least. So here goes for
Part One...................These are not
in any special order, just random
thoughts as they came to me.
#1.
Never start cleaning in the kitchen
or you will never get out of there,
as there is always something to
clean...........
That was certainly true for my single
parent, hardworking Mom...she would
always start in the kitchen, but never
got out of there.............
I sort of modified that....I will go in
their once everyone has had breakfast
take care of the dishes, wipe down
counters, then start in another room,
but if you find you can't stop at that,
then I would definitely recommend
you don't start there................
you don't start there................
Find a starting point in the room
(maybe the door) and work your
way around the room clockwise
cleaning from top to bottom.
That way you are dusting walls,
pictures, door frames, mirror
doors, baseboards, table tops
or whatever comes next in
cleaning from top to bottom.

#3
Dust a room before you vacuum,
that way you don't have to worry
about getting the floor messed up
again............and having to redo
your work.
The difference between messy's
and cleanies - Cleanies have a good
habit of walking into a room and
looking at what is out of order or
seeing what makes the room look
bad. Maybe the throw pillows are
not in place, or the french doors
have smudges from pets noses or
children's hands, or some debri on
the floor. So they take care of those
items first, and then the room looks
good again.
Good News is..........
If you are a messy you can train
yourself to scan a room and see
what is out of place, then take
care of it and you will be very
pleasantly surprised at what a
difference it makes.........

Of course, this does not take the
place of deep cleaning that will
need to be done at some time,
but it is a matter of keeping your
home neat and looking well.
Using microfiber clothes on mirrors
and windows. You only need to
spray a very small amount of window
cleaner on the cloth to do a good
cleaning job. I have found the best
window cleaner is in the automotive
Dept........it is what they use to clean
car windshields. Work Great!
I also like to keep some window
wipes on hand for when you need
to do a really quick clean up. They
can be pretty expensive, but in the
last year or so I have been finding
them at the dollar tree, and before
that I found some in the automotive
Dept. at Target.
Need to clean your stove plates under
your burners.............just put them in
a sink full of hot soapy water,( I prefer
"Dawn" Dishwashing liquid, as it is
a good grease cutter). Then let them
soak an hour or so, while you do some
thing else, and when you come back
they should be ready to wash very
easily.
Happy you came by...........
I will have more tips for you next
Tuesday!
Hope you are having a great day!
Hugs and Blessings,
Nellie

Smart ideas! I love that you shared basic and real ideas with us. Don't start in the kitchen - well that's pretty brilliant!!
ReplyDeleteGreat tips! I wish you could teach my daughters to become cleanses rather than messies - I've been trying for 25 years to no avail!
ReplyDeleteHi Stacey,
ReplyDeleteSo nice that you stopped by and so happy you liked my tips..........really
can't take credit for that brilliant idea, I learned it in a book somewhere
years ago, but as soon as I read it.........I knew it was true !!
Have a great rest of the week and thanks for coming by and for your warm
comments,
Blessings, Nellie
Hi Mountain Mama,
ReplyDeleteSo happy you could drop by for a visit. Yea, I hear you about the kids....
sometimes it takes them getting older before it kicks in.....and they have
to want to be cleanies rather than messies.........lol
Hey.....Maybe we can pray them into Cleanies?? Let's try!! lol
Take care hon, and thanks for coming by and and letting me know you did.
Blessings, Nellie
Thanks for sharing such wonderful tips:) love the window wipes idea. Such pretty St. Patrick's green in the living room! Beautiful burlap and lace table runner! Happy spring cleaning! Hugs, Poppy
ReplyDeleteWindow wipes, huh? News to me. (Can you tell I don't get "out" much?)
ReplyDeleteHi Poppy,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your sweet comments, and for dropping by to visit, glad you liked
the cleaning tips.
Hope you have a lovely day and Happy Spring to you !
Blessings, Nellie
Hi Rebecca,
ReplyDeleteActually I learned about window wipes years ago when Glass Plus came out
with them, but then for some reason they discontinued them and I could
never find them again, even online, so thought well guess that is a done deal. Anyway, I think I came across some at Lowe's on accident, but they
were not by Glass Plus, but they still worked well. I love having them
cause sometimes you are in a hurry and just don't feel like getting the
normal stuff out or maybe you just have one thing that needs cleaning.
So they can be very handy like that. I am not surprised that people
don't know about them because I have never seen them advertised anywhere
now that I think about it.......
So you learn something new everyday!! lol
Hope this finds you doing well hon.
Blessings, Nellie
A great tip is if you can have "Merry Maids" service, ha!
ReplyDelete#1. Something to clean and EAT as well, ha!
#2. Whoa! That would take me all day with one wall, lol!
#3. Any ideas for how to not have a stinky smell in the vacuum?
#4. My messes are habit of piling! I need to get out of the habit of putting it down with the mindset of looking at it later!
#5. I need to put some quick wipes next to the bay windows. The dogs are always sticking their nose against the glass!
#6. I need to do that with the covers I have over the burners.
Thanks, Nellie, for your Tuesday Tips!
I love you all, Susan
Hi Susan,
ReplyDeleteYes, I am sure everyone would love to have Merry Maids but for most of us
it just isn't reality!! lol At least not on a continual basis anyway.......
As far as Vacuum cleaner smells........I always wondered about that too,
but never found a solution for that problem. Running the air purifier after
vaccumming takes care of it for me. I do remember reading somewhere that
you could put a clothes dryer sheet in your vacuum bag. Think I tried it
once, and think it worked at first but must not have been too great or I
would still be doing it!! lol But it is worth a try.
Thanks for coming by and for your comments as always, hope some of the tips
make things a bit easier for you.
Have a good day.........Happy St. Paddy's Day to ya!
Love, Nellie
Thanks for the cleaning tips!
ReplyDeleteWe appreciate that you share each week at SYC.
ReplyDeleteYour Welcome Carol,
and thanks for hosting and letting me share my posts at Art and Sand.
Hope this finds you doing well hon,

Great tips Nellie! I agree, I do a quick clean up of the kitchen and then move on to other rooms from there. I do the scan the room thing and it really makes a difference as to what a little bit of tweaking can do. Love the blarney stones! I put some in a lantern outside, but they've faded so much. Really need to replace them. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
ReplyDeletehugs,
Jann
Thank You Jann, very nice to hear from you and also that you employ many of these tips
ReplyDeletealready......it does make things easier, huh!
I didn't know those stones would fade like that, course, the sun can make a lot of things
fade very quickly.............
Happy spring to you!
Blessings, Nellie
