39th Anniversary Sequel - The Rest of the Story!

*
Hello there Sweet Friends,
*
Wanted to say Thanks so much for all the nice
comments from yesterdays post.
*
Hope you are all doing well today!
*
I have just been doing a lil cleaning today,
and as I was cleaning I got to thinking
about yesterday post and how my purpose
was to pay a tribute to my hubby and
tell how we met,  and I think I accomplished
that purpose pretty well.
*
But I felt the nudging of the Lord to tell the rest
of the story, and pay tribute to our Lord & Savior
Jesus Christ, because without Him and
His Marvelous Intervention in our lives,
I doubt very seriously we would have
made it passed the 10 year mark.
*
Go back up and take a look at my
flowers,  notice they are arranged on
a white book.......that book is a Bible.
Keep that in mind as you read on.
*
Jim and I moved to the Central Florida
area in May of 1980,  after Jim graduated
from College with his engineering degree.
For years he had worked full time and
gone to school part-time.
That wasn't too bad until we had our son.
*
We were now on a very tight budget
because I had  quit my job to stay home
with the baby, just as we had planned,
so there was no extra money for going out
just the two of us,  and we had no relatives
in town to watch the baby,  a few times
we left him with friends but I was nursing and
everytime he took formula from a bottle
he would throw it up and cry and cry,
so we tried several types of formula
and just gave up the idea of leaving him.
*
I began to feel like a single parent,  and
of course,  most of my focus went to the
baby and the house.  Jim's focus was more
and more on his job and school,  and he
was so tired that when he came home he
just wanted to veg in front of the TV for
awhile because he then had studying to do.
I had been with a baby all day I wanted
some adult conversation, all the typical
stuff young parents go through.  We seemed
to be growing apart more and more.
*
But when Jim graduated and we decided
to move to Central Florida I thought now
things will change cause he doesn't have
to study and go to school.  We moved
and were living in a rental and had contracted
to build a new house,  which was a total
dream for us,  we never imagined that
would be possible for us,  but at the time
building a new home was actually less
expensive than buying an older home.
So we were thrilled.
*
He had started his new job but it was about
a 40 min.drive,  and it was long distance for me
to call him or vice versa.  I was use to him being
able to come home for lunch sometimes,  and
being able to talk with him at work if I needed
or wanted to,  I also knew what he did and
who he worked with since I had worked at
the same Company until I quit my job.
*
All of these things made me feel very distant
from him, like I didn't have a part in his life,
and the patterns of the past with the TV
and the not talking or discussing anything
seemed to follow us.
My anger and resentment grew over his not
not wanting to talk about the problems.
I began to say mean things to him,  and
I would see the hurt look on his face,
and would think what makes you do that.
I would sit by him,  and he wouldn't say it but
his body language said "Get away from me"
I was very hurt by that, and felt helpless to
change anything.
*
We had an arguement one evening
and I wound up sleeping on the sofa
for the 1st time in our whole married
life,  I just knew I could not go on
living like this!  I was convinced this
man did not love me at all!
*
My own parents had divorced when
I was only 3 yrs. old,  and I had no
recollection of my dad ever living
with us. In fact, everyone in my family
 was divorced, some multiple times,
so that was the last thing I wanted was a
divorce,  but I also knew I couldn't continue
living with someone I felt didn't love me.
*
Jim on the other hand came from a family
where no one in his entire family was divorced,
accept one uncle,  I think it was.  Now that
did not mean that people were happily  married,
in fact,  a lot of them were miserably married.
That certainly in no way appealed to me!
*
So the next morning,  after lying awake the
whole night on the sofa when I was suppose
to be sleeping,  I brought the crisis,  and
for the first time ever,  I used the D word.
*
That got his attention,  finally!!
I could see on his face that what I had
been thinking about him not loving me
was just not true!  For the first time
ever in our marriage we finally really
talked about our relationship.  We
decided that we needed to go back
to church and get serious with the
Lord or we were not gonna make it.
*
As we talked,  I remembered that a
girl at a model home had invited me to
a church in the community center
where we live,  so we decided we
were gonna go that Sunday,  and
we did,  and we have been going
to that same church for 29 yrs. now.
*
When Jim and I got married we were
both Christians,  but very ignorant as
a stone Christians,  we knew nothing
about the word of God really!
*
So we began attending this Christian
Missionary Alliance Church and
God started putting people in our
path,  books in our hand,  gave us
Christian friends to encourage us and
taught us by going to Sunday School
 classes on marriage,  parenting and
finances and just teaching on the word
of God. We had a wonderful Pastor
who was a great bible teacher and
counselor.  Although we probably
needed marriage counseling we never
did get any because the Lord just
began to change our selfish hearts
and make us one.
*
 We began to understand God's
word and that we needed to practice
and do what God's word teaches,
and little by little as we began to do
that, God began to make our marraige
better and better,  and has continued
to this day.  Now we teach most of
the marriage classes at our church,
and I believe we needed to experience
what we did, so we would know how
other people feel and what they are
going through.  We have a real heart
for marriages and want to see people
not just be married, but happily
married.  I don't think it was God's
intention for us to be miserable.
If God can get 2 willing hearts,
he can change things very quickly,
but even if one person is obedient
to God's word,  God can work
in amazing ways.
*
After we started growing as Christians
that is when I started learning about
the Holy Spirit and realized that
when I met Jimmy and thought there
was something very different about
him,  it was my spirit bearing witness
with his spirit.  We had not had that teaching
from Gods word about not being unequally
yoked,  so we never really discussed
if we were christians or not.
*
Also,  I chose to carry a bible at my
wedding because I had Christian neighbors
that  were a huge influence in my life,  and  they are the
number one reason I am a Christian today
and they were very happily married,  and I knew they
were happy because of God and that was what I
wanted for my marriage.  I would say God
honored the heart desires of that 18 yr. old girl!
*
Just thought I should share this because just like
the "thrifty Decor Chick" said in one of her posts
last week,  sometimes you read peoples blogs and think
they have a perfect life! But there is no one who
doesn't experience some type of problems or conflict
in their marriage or family. Some worse than others,  True,
but no person is perfect,  therefore, no relationship is perfect,
but if you work together it can be very very Good,
and that is where we are now,  I am happy to say,  but we
give all the Glory to the Lord. He is Awesome!
 and we could
have never done it alone.
*
Hope that somehow this has encouraged your
heart and made you glad you know God and
the power of  His resurrection, or makes you
want to know Him,  if you don't!
*
Thanks for coming by,
*
Love,  hugs, and Blessings,
Nellie

Happy 39th Anniversary and Our story

*
Happy Tuesday Sweet Friends,
*
Even though this is a few days late,  3 exactly,  I still
want to pay a tribute to my Wonderful Hubby of 39 years!
So excuse me for just a minute,  and then I will tell you
Our Story of how we met.
*
Happy Anniversary
Again Honey!
Your are the Best,  and I appreciate
and Love you so very much,
and could never imagine what my
life would be like without you in it!
*
With that said,  I have to tell you we had a very
lovely and fun weekend, truly a delight for us.
We had plans to go do some shopping at some
Malls we only frequent once a year,  but due
to the shooting in Orlando on Friday and the
traffic,  we decided to stay nearer home, but
we still had a great time Christmas Shopping
and going out to dinner,  then on Saturday
Scott and his new girlfriend, Megan and our
daughter Dee and my Sister-in-law Susan came
over for a Lasagna feast.  Then we played
the new "Uno" game.  It is a riot,  instead of
you drawing cards,  it shoots them out to
you and in the number the machine chooses.
This game is garanteed to give you some laughs
for sure!  Then of course,  on Sunday there was
church and on Monday,  we just enjoyed lounging
around reading to one another and hanging out and
relaxing.  It was just fun being together, with
no agenda and nothing we had to do!
We also took our first showers in our newly
renovated bathroom.  What a delight!
Can't believe how much bigger the shower
seems,  because of the lighter and larger tile.
I love it everytime I use it,  feel like I am
at the Ritz Carlton or something ! lol
And I can thank my Sweet, hardworking,
"make it look just right" hubby. He did
such an excellent job,  and I helped too,
so he gave me a pat on the back too! lol
*
Well,  I better get on with the Our Story
*
We met  on January  9,  1970,  I was an 18 yr. old
Senior in high School,  and he was a 22 yr. old
guy who just got out of the Air Force,  and came
back home to his family in Key West, Florida.
*
Jimmy (as the family calls him) used to be best
friends with  my step brother-in-law, David,
and happened to run into him at Burger King,
and they talked a bit,  and David said,  hey,
My sister-in-law just broke up with her boy
friend,  maybe I can set you up,  so Jim said
okay,  why not??
*
My  Step -Sister Kathy calls and tells me the
scoop and I am a little nervous because
David had tried to set me up before and I
wasn't too thrilled,  and Jimmy didn't know
what he might be getting into either.
I told Kathy I would only go with they
would go too.  So she said of Course, so
this all took place on a Friday and my
Dad was very strict,  and my step Mom
could not get a hold of him,  so she told us
to go to the movie and come right back.
*
So they come to get me,  and my sister
comes up,  and says he is really cute,
and we are both relieved.  While he was
downstairs waiting my beautiful auburn
haired sister-in-law who was living with
us while my step brother was in Thailand
went down to leave and when she walked
thru the living room,  he thought that  she
was his date,  and then quickly found out
 she wasn't,
 Now........he was a little worried.
*
Shortly after Kathy and I came down,
and  I was introduced to my blind date,
  and off we went.
He was feeling a bit better by then, I think!  lol
We went to see "Butch Cassidy and the
Sundance Kid",  and we came right back after
the movie just as my step Mom had asked.
*
He had opened doors and car doors,
and  I thought he was very polite and nice,
much much nicer than most guys I had  dated.
I also thought that there was something very
different about him, but I didn't know what,
and I liked him a lot right off.
*
Almost a week went by and I had heard
nothing from him,  and my sister asked
had I heard from him and I said No,
guess he didn't like me, She died laughing
and said I have never seen you like
a guy this much,  I think you are gonna
marry this one.  I said I doubt that!
I can't even get him to call me.
*
But he showed up at their house that evening
and she asked him why hadn't he called me,
and he said well,  I didn't really think she
could date,  and she said oh Yea,  she can,
you should give her a call.
*
So........ He called me that night when he
got home,  and asked me out for the next
night,  and I didn't want to seem to eager,
so I said I already had plans, so he asked
me if I had plans for Saturday night and
I said No.  So we went out on Sat. nite
to the movies again,  and he asked me if
I would like to go to church with him in
the morning and come over for Sunday
dinner and meet his family.
*
Well,  I was very impressed with that,
and said yes!
So the next day we went to church
and his Pastor introduced me by mistake
as his fiancee,  and we were both a lil
embarassed and didn't know what to say.
We think now he was a prophet!!  lol
He also married us as well.
*
It was a very small Church,  and the
Sunday School was in the choir loft,
and when we sat on one of the benches
it fell and we wound up on the floor.
Nothing short of an embarassing day!
But it was all so darn funny too!
*
I had met his parents at church,
and then we went over to their home
afterwards for dinner,  and spent
most of the day.  I loved his family
right away,  and they were very
loving and sweet to me
*
From that day forward I don't think
we missed a day of seeing each other
and by the end of May we we were starting
to talk of engagement.  I was getting ready
to graduate but I said I didn't want a ring
for graduation,  I wanted our engagement to
be a whole separate occasion.
*
At my Graduation party he gave
me a gift in a tiny box,  that was inside a
lil bank,  and when I opened the bank
it looked like a ring box,  and everyone
just knew it was gonna be a ring,
me included,  but when I opened it,
it was a charm for my bracelet he
had bought me for my birthday
I think everybody was a lil
disappointed, in a way,  secretly,
so was I... just because it would have been
such a surprise.  But he had honored
my wishes,  and I was glad of that too!
*
On August 18th,  I officially got my
ring and loved it!  Course,  I helped
pick it out!  lol
*
Pretty soon after our engagement, we began
to make Wedding plans,  and were finally
wed on Nov. 7, 1970 in First Baptist church
of Key West, Florida.
*
We resided in Key West for just over a year,
then moved to Hialeah, Florida for 3 weeks,
then to Bitburg, Germany for 10 months,
then back to KeyWest for 2 weeks, then
moved to Goldsboro, N.C.,  for 3 months,
then to Homestead, Florida for 5 months,
then to Fort Lauderdale, Florida for about
7  years or so,  and have residing in the
Central Florida area for almost 30 years now.
*
From the time we left Hialeah to Fort Lauderdale
hubby did govt. contracting that is why we moved
so much.  It was a fun and exciting time tho.
*
We settled down  once we got to Ft. Lauderdale
and bought our first home and had our son
Scott while we were there.  He was 21/2 when
we moved to Central florida.

*
Here is hubby and son.  Scott was about 5-6 here,
which would make Jimmy 35-36 years old.
We had Scott for our 7th Anniversary,  and
Dee for our 14th,  she was born in August 1984.

*
Dee is about 5-6 here as well,  which would make Jimmy
about 41 or 42 here.
*

*
We had our own photo shoot for our 25th Anniversary,
and this was one of the pics.  Could not believe Scott
got his hair bleached just in time for the pics.  lol
These were some of our favorite pics tho.

*
This was taken Christmas right after our
29th Anniversary.
*
*

*
And this was taken around our 35th Anniversary,
so guess it is time for a new one soon!
Hubby has a whole new look now,  awhile
back he shaved his head,  I really like it now,
but it was a lil shocking at first.

*
Sorry this is sooooo long but I wanted to have
the story documented somewhere for my kids and
Grand kids,  if we ever have any! lol
And thought you might enjoy it as well.
*
Well,  thanks for coming by today,
and for all the nice Anniversary wishes you
sent our way,  they were truly appreciated.
*
Blessings and hugs,
Nellie
*

And Happy Anniversary
Again Honey,
Thanks for all the Great times
and Good Memories
It's been a good 39 years!

Have a Sweet Sabbath Rest

Wild Irises from the Appalachian Trail in Maine
*
A Good  Sunday Morning to you!!
*
Hope you have been having a lovely and restful
weekend,  with family and/ or friends.
*
Our weekend has been very delightful,  will
tell you more about it on Tuesday, as
hubby will be home until then.
*
I will leave you with these verses I read, and
was struck by this week in Hebrews 3:12-13
*
"See to it, brothers, that none of you has a sinful,
unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God.
But encourage one another daily, as long as it is
called today, so that none of you may be hardened
by sin's deceitfulness."
*
*
I say wow,  an unbelieving heart,  when we don't
believe God about something it is an unbelieving
heart, and that is sin!  I was reading in the commentary
about this and it was saying that first comes the doubting
heart, and the mistrust, which can lead us to departing
from our relationship with the Lord,  and that is why
it says it verse 13 that we need to encourage each
other daily.  I think that is so true because each of
us goes thru things almost daily, but then there are
big things that happen in our lives that the enemy
tries to use to make us believe that God doesn't
really care about us,  He is not for us or why
would He let this happen?  We really have to
get it in our head and our heart that God loves
us more than we could ever imagine,  and that
He is for us,  He is on our side,  and even when
bad things happen He has a good plan in store
for us.  Romans 8:28, says,  that God works all
things together for the good of those who are called
according to His purposes.  Sometimes we
just have to hang on, and keep watching
and waiting  before we can see it, but it is
always there.  The Lord is more interested
in perfecting us in to His image that He is
about our happiness and comfort.
He may hurt us,  but He will never harm us!
Much like the Dr. who has to set a broken
leg,  in order for us to walk properly again,  he
may have to hurt us to accomplish that,  but his
intention is not to harm us, it is for our good,
to help us, so that you will not walk with a limp
 the rest of your life.
That is truly the heart of God!
*
*
Take courage dear one,  if you are going
thru a tough time right now,  know that God loves
you with an infinite and All knowing love.
Claim the truth of Romans 8:28 and be
watching and looking and asking for God
to show you the good He wants to bring
out of your situation.
*
If you would ever like me to pray for you,  go
up to the top of my blog on the right hand
side where it says contact me,  and click
on that and send me an email,  I would
be honored to pray for you.
*
I have been encouraged by many of
you this week by your sweet words, and your prayers
for my back,  I have been doing great since Friday
and I truly attribute it to God answering
your prayers.  Thank you so very much!
*
Have a Sweet Sabbath Rest,

Happy 32nd Birthday, Scott

*
Hello Sweet Friends,
*
How are you today???
*
Having a bit of trouble with my back still,
but it is definitely better than on Monday
and Tuesday but not quite as good as yesterday!
*
But I am definitely thankful it is better than on
Monday and Tuesday!!  lol
*
The pic of that sweet 5 month old above
is our Sweet Son Scott
who turned 32 yesterday!
*
So since I couldn't get my pics done in time due to
my back problems I decided to dedicate my
Thankful Thursday Post to Scott.
*
He is definitely on my Thankful list every day.
We are so grateful to God for giving to us,
and allowing us to raise this sweet young  man as
our Son.  He will always be a young man to us,
I guess,  since we are so much older!!  lol
*
Here are a few pictures in more recent years.
He was about 26 yrs. old here,
cleans up pretty good!
He reminds me so much of my dad
when I see him in a tux, because of
a pic I have of my dad in a tux.

Here he is with his sister last Dec. 09
at her Graduation.

*

*
and here he is back in August when he started
his new job,  at the Pest Control Company.
I thought he looked so cute in his new uniform.
*
*
*
It was early in the morning and he was
humoring Mom when I took this shot! lol
*
*
HAPPY 32ND BIRTHDAY SCOTT

We love and appreciate you honey,
and pray that the coming year will
be a much better year for you and that
it will be full of all the desires of your heart!

Great Wednesday full of fun, coffee, pie and cookies

*
Happy Wednesday Dear Friends
*
Hope your Wednesday has been as fun as mine.
*
Want to thank all you who have prayed for my
back,  I wasn't moving too fast for 2 days,  but
today I got up feeling so much better.  I would
say I am about at 90%,  can still tell it isn't quite
there yet,  but oh so much better!
Thank you,  Thank You for your prayers.
*
Today was our ladies group,  and there was
just 3 of us,  but we had a marvelous time.
One of the ladies brought some awesome
cookies,  and we had pumpkin pie,  well,
at least I did!! lol
*
The other ladies had cookies and coffee,
I had some of that too!!  I am having a real
hard time staying out of those cookies.
*
We had a really fun time just being together
and connecting and then we discussed ways
spiritually and practically that we can keep
from getting stressed out during our most
favorite times of the year,
Thanksgiving & Christmas,  of course!!
*
I was pondering verses that would go
along with that and this one came
to mind.
Matthew 11:28
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened,
and  I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you
and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble of
heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my
yoke is easy and my burden is light.
*
Isn't it so true, that when we get into the swing
of these favored days, that we adore so much,
that we can get lost in the trimmings and the doings.
*
Over the last years, I have been trying more and
more, to make this time of the year an even more
blessed and special time for me and my family.
*
These are some ways I think we can make that
happen,  and I am commiting  myself to it this
year,  and hope you might want to join me.
*
#1
Commit to making time for prayer every morning,
even if it is just 5 mins.  Pray and ask the Lord to
put His yoke upon you so that you might be at
peace and have joy
*
#2
Having financial deficit problems:??
Ask the Lord to give you creative ideas for gift
giving,  and to lead you to sales and bargains.
He knows your financial state,  and he is able,
and if you have never tried it you will be
 pleasantly surprised.
*
#3
Don't know what to get someone???
Why not  ask the Lord since he knows them
better than anyone.  The Lord has given me
some really great ideas over the years.
*
#4
Feelings overwhelmed and resentful???
Ask the Lord to help you with your attitude,
get a good nights rest,  and ask your family
to help you.  Be specific about the tasks
that you want them to accomplish.
*
#5
Don't know what to do first??
Make a list of what you need to do,  then
prioritize it first,  then take them one at a time.
Also make a list of your Thanksgiving and
Christmas dinner menu, a list with the name and gifts
you have already purchased or made for each
person, and a wish list for yourself  (because people
usually ask you for ideas and it will save you not
having to think of something) and make another list with
 ideas you have
for gift giving to loved ones and friends.
*
#6
Decide as a family what you really love to do the
most - maybe it is entertaining at home,  or going
out to more events.  Decide beforehand because
.  If you already know then it  will make it easier to say Yes,
to the right things and No to the lesser important things.
And don't feel guilty for saying No!
Everybody knows you can't do it all.
*
#7
If  possible,  start shopping or making gifts now.
*
#8
Start baking now if possible,  and freeze till later.
*
#9
If sending Christmas cards is too much for you at
this time of the year maybe you could send out
Thanksgiving cards and put in a Christmas letter!
Or send out cards and a letter at Easter!
I love hearing from friends,  and I love Christmas
cards,  but I would much rather have a card at
Thanksgiving or Easter that tells me what is going on in
the lives of the sender, than just a signed Christmas card.
*
Well,  just thought I would share some ideas
that I have tried and some I want to try,  and
maybe it will help make your Thanksgiving
and Christmas less of a burden and more
of a JOY!
Isn't that what it is really all about anyway,
Joy and Thankfulness to our Wonderful Savior!!
*
Thanks for coming by,
*
Blessings and Hugs,
Nellie

Our Fun lil Sunday Surprise

*
Happy Monday Sweet Friends,
*
How is your Monday going???
*
I was very motivated today and went to work outside
since it is overcast and was a bit cool,  but then I did
something ( I have no idea what) and thru my back out,
wasn't sure if I was gonna make it in the house or not,
so had to leave the garbage can and clippers right where
they were cause I didn't dare try to pick them up.
*
I am happy to report I made it in,  but am moving
slowly,  I hate that,  cause I had all these things I had
planned to do today.  Well..............Life is what happens
when you are making your plans!!  lol
The Lord obviously must have other plans for me today!
*
Well,  wanted to tell you a lil story about what happened
here on Sunday morning.  I was in the kitchen ironing
something to wear to church,  and I heard this clunky
banging noise a number of times.  At first,  I thought it was
just the scarecrow banner I have on our front door,  it
has a dowel in it and if the wind blows it,  it makes
a lil noise,  but the noise was getting louder and
louder  so I went towards the living room trying to
discover if maybe it was Joey doing something,
Well,  it wasn't Joey!!
*
Then I heard it again,  it was really loud and kept
banging and banging,  and at first,  I thought our
A/C might be dripping again,  cause it does that
ocassionally when it gets plugged up.
*
Then I could tell it was coming from the front
door,  and I thought man,  the wind must really
be blowing hard this morning,  but when I got
to the door,  I could tell the banging was coming
from the bottom of the door.
*
So I called hubby out of the bedroom and said
I think you better go out thru the garage cause
their is something trying to get in our door I
think.  I wasn't sure if maybe it was a snake
thrashing around or something.

Hubby went out,  and it was this cute lil turtle.
We have a brass kick plate at the bottom of our
door,  so think he was seeing his reflection and
thought he saw a hot turtle babe,  and was
going after her!  I could not believe all the
noise he made.  Hubby had already picked
him up and I came with the camera and asked,
can you put him back where you found him
so I can get a shot,  so he tried, but he tumbled
off the doorstep onto his back and I almost
got a shot, but he flipped himself over just
as I clicked the camera.  Pooh!

Would have made a good shot. Then we took

him over and let him go into the woods. He seemed
quite happy to go!! lol
For an animal that is suppose to be so slow, he
went pretty swiftly off so we could not longer see him.

I think it is called a "Box Turtle".
We were glad he visited us,
I get such a delightful kick out of stuff like that!

God's charming lil surprises,  I just love them!

Have a great day,  and if you think about it say
a few prayers for my back.  Our Anniversary
is this weekend and hubby is taking Friday and
Monday off,  and we have plans to go out
Christmas shopping and to dinner on Friday,
and a family celebration on Saturday.

Well you have a good one,  thanks for dropping in,
